Our Story
A Strong Weave
Culture and Science Combined
Environmental impact assessment can be complex. The many and various components of the natural environment are intricately interwoven and in constant cyclical change. Human interactions with and affecting the environment can be guided by both culture and science.
Ayelstexw Consulting is the only firm (in the BC Lower Mainland) to combine modern engineering and natural resource professional practice with ancestral First Nation values and ways of knowing to better assess and understand the complete consequences of human activity on the land.
Our unique skill is in combining Sto:lo ecological knowledge with industry standard applied science to assess, plan, and monitor land development projects in a more complete and practical way. We see more and guide better.
As a result, long term benefits of projects are increased plus risk and costs are reduced.
Our services, available throughout BC, are focused on the Lower Mainland region and support project proponents in their efforts to deliver on time and on budget for the benefit of all.
Ayelstexw: the word, the story
How did we get the name for our company? Ayelstexw is a term that is a combination of three parts. In the upriver dialect of the Halqemeylem language, the language of the Sto:lo people, the full translation is as follows:
Ayel – which translates to good health, well being
St – is to cause something, to do something
Exw – which means them or it
Together the word translates to; Leave it in good health or leave it as you found it. In the context of Ayelstexw Consulting, we are leaving the Environment in good health.
